Wendy Shortland comes from a career in computing in the corporate world, however she has painted for many years. In 2004 she gained an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art at the Sydney Gallery School, and in 2007 completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in painting and drawing, at COFA (College of Fine Arts) - part of the University of New South Wales. Because of her background in the I.T industry Wendy has a particular interest in digital art. She uses Photoshop and other software to prepare the image. She then prints on fine art paper or Asian papers, and works into the printed image with traditional media. This interest has led her to book art, and in 2007 two of her artist's books were exhibited in the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Her subject matter always pertains to the human condition, often using images from the carnival as a metaphor. Wendy has been a consultant for the acrylic paint company, Matisse Derivan, since 2000. This means she is trained in using acrylic paints and mediums 'direct from the horse's mouth'. She teaches a weekly class in 'Painting in Acrylics' at Sydney Community College, at Rozelle in Sydney. In late 2007 she began teaching book at at Artwise, the amazing paper shop. Wendy's c.v can be seen here This image is a digital print on paper |
