Wendy Shortland comes from a career in computing in the corporate world, however she has painted for many years. In 2004 she gained an Advanced Diploma in Fine Art at the Sydney Gallery School, and in 2007 completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in painting and drawing, at COFA (College of Fine Arts) - part of the University of New South Wales.

Wendy also makes fine art prints and this led her to book art. Her books have been exhibited in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and have been acquired by the Southern Cross University and Meadowbank College.

Wendy's recent paintings are of the urban landscape, and a childhood interest in ships has returned in her fine art prints and drawings.

In March and April 2011, Wendy taught a series of sketching classes in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney.
